Negroni is a personal tasting journal built by Vassili Schelkovoy. This page explains, in plain language, what the app does with your data — which is almost nothing.

The short version
  • Negroni stores all your data on your iPhone.
  • If you turn on iCloud sync, your data is synced through your own iCloud account, encrypted by Apple.
  • I do not run a server. I do not collect, see, or share any of your data — ever.
  • The app contains no analytics, no advertising, no third-party SDKs, and no tracking.
If that's all you needed to know, you can stop reading. The rest is detail.

What data the app handles
Negroni stores the information you choose to enter when logging a tasting:
  • Restaurant or bar name
  • Gin and vermouth used
  • Ice style and garnish
  • Your rating and notes
  • Price (optional)
  • Photo (optional)
  • Location coordinates of the tasting (optional, only if you grant permission)
All of this is created by you, stored on your device, and visible only to you.

Where your data lives
By default, your tastings are stored in the app's private container on your iPhone. They never leave your device unless you choose to enable iCloud sync.
iCloud sync (optional). If you enable iCloud, your tastings are synced between your own Apple devices through Apple's iCloud service. This sync is end-to-end encrypted by Apple. The data passes through Apple's infrastructure, not mine. I cannot access it. Even Apple cannot read its content — they only store the encrypted blob.
To turn iCloud sync on or off, use your device's Settings → [your Apple ID] → iCloud → Negroni.

Permissions the app may ask for
Negroni requests three system permissions, each used only for the stated purpose:
Camera — to let you photograph your cocktail glass when adding a tasting.
Photo Library — to let you pick existing photos from your library, and to save shareable tasting postcards back to your photos when you ask the app to.
Location (While Using the App) — to remember where each tasting happened. Your location is read only at the moment you save a tasting. The coordinates are stored locally with that single tasting and are never sent anywhere outside your device or your iCloud.
You can revoke any of these permissions at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy.

What the app does NOT do
To be explicit:
  • Negroni does not collect personal information.
  • Negroni does not transmit any data to me, the developer.
  • Negroni does not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
  • Negroni does not share data with anyone.
  • Negroni does not require an account, email, or login.
  • Negroni does not contain any in-app purchases.
I have no developer dashboard counting your taps, no crash reporter sending me logs, no email list collecting your address. The app is a closed system between you and your phone.

Children
Negroni is intended for adults — the App Store rating is 17+ because the app references alcohol consumption. The app is not designed for, marketed to, or intended for use by children under 17.
I do not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children. If a parent or guardian believes their child has somehow used the app, simply deleting the app removes all associated data from the device.

Changes to this policy
If I ever change how the app handles data — for example, by adding new features that require new permissions — I will update this policy and note the change at the top. The current version is dated above.
I do not anticipate substantial changes. The app is a personal project, and I have no plans to monetise, instrument, or commercialise it.
